Usually, celebrities are quite a novelty amidst the cornfields of Iowa. However, nestled in amidst the farmland, the Maharishi University of Management campus has hosted its fair share including actor Russel Brand, musician Donovan, and film director David Lynch. The most recent celebrity visitor to grace the Maharishi University of Management campus, and arguably the most well-known, is none other than TV media mogul Oprah Winfrey.
Oprah visited Fairfield, Iowa, home of Maharishi University of Management (MUM), in October. Her visit will air as part of her new weekly series, titled Oprah’s Next Chapter, premiering January 1 on OWN, Oprah’s cable network. Her visit to Fairfield will be among the first six episodes. The program will be shown on Sunday evenings at 8:00 p.m. Central Time.
A press release for the series says that “Oprah steps outside of the studio for some riveting, enlightening, in-depth conversations with newsmakers, celebrities, thought leaders, and real-life families.” Get a sneak preview and see where she’s going, who she’s meeting and what adventures await:
In preparation for her visit, Oprah and her media team learned Transcendental Meditation, an effortless mantra-based meditation technique, which is the foundation of the consciousness-based education system at MUM. Then, her film-crew spent several days filming and conducting interviews in town. Oprah visited for a day and her itinerary included:
- Interviewing students and meeting with teachers at Maharishi School
- Speaking with Fairfield’s Mayor Malloy
- Interviewing Vedic Pandits
- Meditating in the Golden Domes
- Walking around the town square
Oprah shared a little bit about her experience in Fairfield and what it meant to her during her recent appearance on The Dr. Oz Show:
“It was a tremendous honor to have Oprah Winfrey here even for a brief visit,” said Richard Beall, director of Maharishi School. “We’ve been in communication for some time about this visit; it’s hard to believe it’s actually happened.”

Oprah is such a helpful person. She should be our role model especially for those wealthy people. We should learn how to help those in need. And share our blessings to them.
