The impact that the Transcendental Meditation (TM) technique has had on my life is that it is now more like how I want it to be and less like something I’m simply dealing with. Anxiety attacks were my life and I was ready to give up. I looked at life like, “ Should I use the bottle and smoke myself up to feel better? Or should I sit here terrified in my own skin?” I chose the more pleasurable of the two.

It turns out that path was way too destructive. I wrecked cars, ruined relationships and quit jobs and I justified it by never getting caught or getting in trouble. I had sunk myself so low with my self-destructive patterns that I was looking at life from as if i was laying on the bottom of a pool. I could see the colors and people but they were out of reach and of no use to me.

Things only really changed when my TM instructor Bernardo Del Rosario, out of the Bethesda Transcendental Meditation center in Maryland, put his hand to me and waited until I was ready to hold on. HE helped me out of the life I was drowning in. He taught me TM and it was like receiving a burst of life to my heart and that left it functioning the way it had been before my life turned out to be something I wasn’t so fond of.

When I think of my life before I started TM and after, I am so grateful that I hung in there. I never wanted to kill myself but I was always making excuses to do the most reckless activities that end in death. My favorite was racing my motorcycle in rush hour traffic with no protective gear on except for my helmet. The idea was that I was more connected to life by wearing less.

I know now that from within myself life is derived. The more I learn about myself the more I feel alive. I still like doing a wheelie or two, race a corvette down I-95, but when the ride is over I still feel as good as I did before I started and that great feeling never goes away.

David George David George is a first year student at Maharishi University of Management and is majoring in Media and Communications. Prior to learning Transcendental Meditation and enrolling at MUM he served the U.S Army in Iraq.

The benefits of Transcendental Meditation are amazing I have experienced wonderful effects in my own life. I think TM should be taught in the military I cannot think of a better cure for victims of PTSD. Dr John Hagelin also presents a great argument for TM. Great video!

Great post. Shows how MUM has their own strong foundation in the education field. I am inspired of it.
