“Anything is possible, we just have to figure out how we’re going to make it happen. When I was at Maharishi University of Management I became pretty convinced that the only thing standing between me and my goals was my own creativity,” says Justin Cutter, Maharishi University of Management Alumni and co-creator of Compass Green.

Compass Green will be “Bringing Green here, there and everywhere in between.” It is an educational, mobile greenhouse project, meaning that the bed of the truck pictured above will be transformed into a working garden space and will be driven around the country to aid in presentations and workshops. Other plans for the project:

  • Run the truck on waste vegetable oil
  • Offer sustainable farming presentations, workshops and greenhouse tours focusing on the Biointensive method
  • Raise awareness about the need for sustainable food and energy sources
  • Share practical ideas for how to make local agricultural production a reality anywhere

Justin Cutter and Nick Runkle, co-creators of Compass Green, have compiled their creativity into the Compass Green project and are in the process of raising money to launch this “greenhouse on wheels.” They hope to raise $12,000 in the next 5 days utilizing the online funding platform Kickstarter.

When asked about what inspired them to create this mobile greenhouse they responded:

We’re at a point in our planet’s history where we need to face the consequences of our actions (the rapid destruction of our farm-able land, the increasing difficulty to get quality water for our crops or for drinking, the changing climate and greenhouse effect…) and we need to do something about it. We are creative beings, and we can take this situation of scarcity, and turn it into one of abundance. Change is needed, and for us (and for the thousands of people across the nation we’re going to visit) the vehicle for that change is a greenhouse on wheels.

A mobile greenhouse project? Sounds very intriguing. I do agree with your statement about where we are in our planet’s history. Living here in Florida, it seems that it gets hotter every summer.

Yes, change is needed with today’s environmental challenges. What a great idea to have a “mobile greenhouse” for educational purposes. We need to keep the issues in front of the public for awareness.

A mobile food production facility is great for educational purposes but purhaps the the large scale or home applications may daunt some people. Have you looked into aquaponics? This can be quite successful in varying sizes in your backyard.

I think this is a great business idea, and at the same time it is environmental friendly.
Just wish more companies gave some environmental thoughts higher priority than the pure economical.

The idea of a mobile food facility is exciting in educating the public. The very existence of the world’s future is one that should be discussed daily and in the public eye.

This is a great idea indeed! It’s a good opportunity to actually show the people how it is done, not only to preach about it. I’m curious how you are going to make the truck run on waste vegetable oil, though.

The educational potential is great …have you thought about seeing if you can visit local schools and point out the reasons why a change away from traditional farming practices are needed to the students?

That sounds like a great idea, and in my humble opinion, such a project is a must with recent environmental changes.

A mobile green house is an interesting idea…especially making it easy to do demonstrations for kids in elementary schools. They can learn sustainable practices to take forward in life.

Nice idea by the way. Able to give people some tips on how to grow greens even if they don’t have enough spaces.

I started growing my first organic vegetable garden this year. I love it! However, it took my Dad finally convincing me that it would be a good idea. I think your idea would help encourage people to start something. Once you taste a garden fresh tomato there’s just no going back!

What a marvellous idea! Your right when you’re saying that the only thing between you and your goals is your creativity. I think I’ll write that down…

I wish you both luck and success with this admirable endeavor; we need more people to see that the world is heading towards a calamity of mass proportion if we do not change our way of thinking and how we do things.

There is more than enough knowledge and available technology to solve most of the problems that we have brought upon ourselves for the past 100+ years; what’s lacking is the will to change.

Hello, I think this is a great idea. Going green is the only way to save our earth. I do not think that we have another choice. Good luck for your project.

Thank you

I like this “Bringing Green here, there and everywhere in between.” If onlky half of this earth have the same thinking, I’m sure our children will have a great life in future.

Wow, I’ve never actually seen one of these before. On paper it sounds like a great idea, especially if you these guys can educate others on our earths climates and the need for a “greener” world. You’d be amazed at how little people know about sustainable energies, foods etc!

I’ve heard about this recently from a friend or a colleague, I cannot remember which. It’s funny how you seem to notice things more when you’ve just learned about them. In any case, thanks for the memory jog.

Wow, that would be pretty crazy to run the entire trick just off of vegetable oil! I always try to do my little part to reduce my carbon footprint!

Wow I love the idea of a mobile green truck, I wish you the best of luck. Thanks for the great news.

Many years ago, in my childhood spent in Pennsylvania, there was what was called the “Shanty Man” who delivered a variety of household good via a truck like shown here. The wonderful combination of using a truck that runs on recycled vegetable oil and touting the green movement brought back a great memory for me. Great idea, even better cause. Good luck with this worthwhile venture.

I can only dream of the day, I can run my truck on vegetable oil. Also, I wish I had a “mobile greenhouse”. That would be sweet.

What a fantastic idea. It’s especially a great way to start informing and actually demonstrating to children early on how important it is to be able to sustain ourselves by growing our own food.
